EXPRESS.3 Movement That Feels GOOD!
The intention of the Gene Moves approach is to bring a fluid appreciation to the wide spectrum of human movement. Explore, Expand, Express, and getting in touch with the Elements are all integral to moving stronger, freer, more consciously and in a sustainable fashion. The human body is built to handle so much, but can be greatly deconditioned or over-conditioned in ways that limit our movement - ESPECIALLY limiting the movement that just feels good.
So it is no mystery that when we base our practice and daily awareness around doing the movement that feels right, is beneficial to another end, or just feels damn good in the moment, THAT allows us to shift towards the quality of movement. This shift in quality then quickly helps us feel better, but it is also not going to happen immediately in every domain. Often what might feel good to one body may be more stillness or gentle movements, or more controlled versions of movements done poorly, and other cases someone may want to just walk or do a simple movement pattern or circuit that can get them into rhythm.
The invitation to the reader and mover then, is to allow yourself to look at movement in this qualitative and feeling-focused manner. Give yourself 10 more minutes today, either stand alone activity or as part of movement practice you scheduled, to use what you know but apply that intention to it. Create space to be curious and slow down. Just a little bit of time, intention, action and creative space devoted to this each day gives you more from your every practice.
