EXPRESS.1 - Your body knows best
Given the right environment, the right pressures and the decision (can be subconsciously made too) - humans can express themselves in an incredibly liberating way through dance, play, combat, lovemaking, and truly, all movement.
This is immensely important to me as an individual, and a coach. I have found a great many transformative experiences through expressive movement, and not just with the intention, hopes - or even less - expectations of having fun by moving how I choose. I mean real genuine expression that honors the tougher, grittier, challenging experiences, emotions, thoughts, sensations we can have as humans. Real expression honors both your individual uniqueness and the very fabric which connects us all in life - the same patterns of life we share at various degrees and levels.
In witnessing others who were curious, authentic, a little bit wild, a touch of composure, I found myself to begin to embody more of the same. I found a raw, organic flow of creative expression through movement, and not just by dance, but by every single time I made the decision to do something good for my body, mind, heart and perhaps directly or indirectly, the world. I made the decision to join the Army National Guard and serve by being physically ready, mentally prepared, and of a certain composure. I made many decisions to go walk or lift or run - to move with form - or move around without form when I felt my challenges needed a mirror that wasn’t mental.
Movement is in many ways conscious and unconscious, like our thoughts. Expression begins in a simple way - to become conscious of the way that a position, movement, or the breath feels. We can also do very well to apply this to our external and internal environments: the people, things, happenings in our surroundings as well as the thoughts, the sensations and the emotions we experience before, during and after movement.
This series will be continued where we will dive deeper into what it is to EXPRESS the body, mind and heart through movement. Today, contemplate and act towards a more REAL expression of yourself. Listen to what your body is telling you - over time you will find more supportive ways to move accordingly.
